Teacher cleared of sex assaults
00:00, 01 August 2002
A TEACHER has been cleared of indecently assaulting two young pupils after the prosecution dropped the case against him.
Ian Nash, 25, was facing a retrial after a jury at Maidstone Crown Court was discharged three days earlier for technical reasons.
Both girls, who were aged nine at the time of the alleged offences last year, gave evidence via a TV link to the court. But questioning from defence QC Wendy Joseph revealed inconsistencies in their accounts.
Eleanor Laws, prosecuting, said the decision to offer no further evidence against Mr Nash, of Beltinge Road, Herne Bay, was taken after consulting police officers in the case and a Crown Prosecution Service lawyer.
