The New Thanet Way is set for a series of closures over the next seven weekdays.
Starting tonight, parts of the A299 will be shut between 7.30pm and 5am on each of the nights to allow for planned roadworks.
It will begin with a closure on the coastbound carriageway between Brenley Corner and Clapham Hill.
The A299 will then be shut between the same junctions in the opposite direction tomorrow night.
Kent County Council has encouraged motorists to travel through the A2 Boughton Bypass, Dover Road, A2050 Harbledown Bypass, London Road, A290 Whitstable Road, Blean and Clapham Hill instead.
The main road will then be closed in both directions between Clapham Hill and the Eddington Interchange on Wednesday and Thursday.
Over Friday and Monday night, it will then be sealed off from the Eddington Interchange to the St Nicholas Roundabout in different directions each day.
Alternative routes can be taken through Herne Bay, Broad Oak and Sturry.
The final night will see closures in both directions of the A299 between the St Nicholas Roundabout and Monkton Road, with diversions signposted.
