Thousands have lined the promenade and are enjoying the sunshine at Kent’s biggest summer air show.

Organisers of the Herne Bay Air Show, the Bay Promo Team, have secured a wide range of aircraft to fly over the skies of the town.

It includes acrobatic display teams, the RAF Red Arrows, a AVRO Lancaster Bomber and a Typhoon Eurofighter, while there are also exhibits on the ground such as Spitfires.

This morning there were queues along the A299 on the way into the town, and on Twitter some people reported long waits for trains and buses, but both Stagecoach and Southeastern trains have been running more services.

The event attracted 70,000 spectators last year, and this year there could be even more eagle eyed plane-spotters ready to enjoy the good weather.

Among them is five-year-old Dylan Bastable, who is ready with his binoculars for the spectacle overhead.

Bay Promo Team spokesman Gerald McCarthy said: “It is a fantastic spectacle for the town – the seafront is the shop window and there will be a lot of people looking.”
