A Kent seaside café has concocted an ice-cream containing the popular drink Prime - which bosses claim is a world first.

Makcari’s in Central Parade, Herne Bay, is launching the flavour this weekend amid hopes the gelato will be one of the business' top sellers this summer.

There were huge queues outside the likes of Aldi and even shortages when Prime, a coconut water-based drink promoted by YouTubers Logan Paul and KSI, first hit shelves last year.

Due to the beverage’s notoriety it has been selling for considerably more than its £2 recommended retail price, with some online listings reaching £150 a bottle.

Hassan Hassan, who owns Makcari’s with his brother Nejmi, said: “We’re hoping it will be popular as there are so many kids out there who haven’t been able to get hold of a bottle or are spending ridiculous amounts for it.

“It’s just hugely popular and we try to look out for the trends like that. The beauty of our company is we’re able to make pretty much any flavour.

“So we thought 'let's pull the ingredients and flavours apart and turn it into a gelato'.”

Makcari’s - which has two branches in Central Parade - is known for its inventive flavours, having offered tomato ketchup, mushy pea and Marmite ice creams in the past.

Mr Hassan says the first hurdle he and his brother encountered when creating the new gelato was getting their hands on enough Prime to make it.

“Getting hold of it without having to spend a ridiculous amount of money for it is hard,” he said.

“We make the gelato fresh, so for as long as we can keep finding Prime for a reasonable cost, we will be able to offer it.

“Hopefully we will be able to see it through to the end of the summer, but it will be one of those items that when it’s gone, it’s gone until we can make the next batch.”

Adverts produced by Mr Hassan say the variety is the "world's first Prime gelato".

The businessman also stresses the ice cream will be offered for the same price as the rest of his flavours.

“I’ve got kids of my own, a 16-year-old and a 12-year-old, so I’ve been one of those parents who has gone to the supermarket at silly o’clock in the morning to try to pick up a bottle," Mr Hassan added.

“We’re giving kids an alternative because we’re charging our normal price - we’re selling it as we would any other flavour.”

The influencer-inspired frozen treat will be available from tomorrow.

It will be priced at £3.50 for one scoop and £5 for two.
