Joint boss John Embery said Herne Bay’s 3-1win over Hythe on Saturday was the perfect way to bounce back after the humiliating defeat against East Grinstead.
He and co manager Jermaine Darlington demanded the team showed their mettle after losing that game 5-2 and they did that in style to secure their first home league win – at the ninth attempt.
Danny Leonard gave them the lead with a tidy finish on 17 minutes before new signing Nathan Wood doubled their advantage four minutes into the second half.
Jake Embery scored a belter from 30 yards to make it 3-0 before Chris Kinnear netted a late consolation for the visitors.
Embery said he could not have been happier with the performance but added that the trick now is for Bay to be far more consistent.
He said: “We said to the players just go out and do yourselves justice and that’s what they did.
“They showed a lot more desire, and more importantly application but they need to do that week-in week-out.
“It’s no good winning one week and losing the next we need to find more consistency in our performances because that’s the only way we’ll climb the table.”
Bay’s squad included two new strikers, scorer Wood, and Ronald Sobowale , both of whom have signed on six-week loan deals from Walton Casuals.
Wood, 19, was with Chelsea up to the age of 16 while Sobowale has been on trial with League 1 Barnsley.
Embery said: “Nathan came straight into the side and played very well.
“He’s quick, skilful and he likes to score goals.
“Ronald has been on trial with Barnsley and is due to go back in the new year. I think they’ll both add to our squad.”
Bay travel to Sittingbourne on Saturday and Embery feels they have a chance now to build some momentum going into the new year.
“We’ve got two wins from three so if we could get a result at Sittingbourne it would be three from four which is quite a turnaround for us.
“We’ve got the players to be a top six side but we’ve just not been consistent enough and results haven’t always gone our way.
“Sittingbourne won’t be easy and there’s a bit of history because Jermaine and I managed there and several of the players were there with us as well.”
