Sam Denly is targeting a new striker ahead of Herne Bay’s Ryman League Division 1 South home game against Hastings United on Saturday.

The Winch’s Field boss wants to complete the signing in time for the player to face the Sussex visitors, but said: “I have still got a few phone calls to make, but hopefully it will happen.”

Bay suffered an unfortunate end to last week when Saturday’s game at strugglers Walton Casuals was halted six minutes from time, due to a power failure, with Bay 2-1 ahead.

The abandonment postponement will be discussed by the Ryman League board who are due to meet on Thursday, and seem set to order the game to be replayed.

Bay had midfielder Dan Parkinson sent off five minutes into the second half, following two yellow cards, with his one-game ban set to stand.

Denly said: “It was very frustrating, but what can you do?
“We were excellent and the win would have been massive for us, particularly after losing our two previous home games.

Young striker Sam Hasler is ruled out of Saturday’s game with a dead leg.

Bay will be commemorating the 100th anniversary of the 1914 Christmas Truce at the game on Saturday.

The Rev Anthony Everett, vicar of Christ Church and St Andrew’s, will lead proceedings, and make a short address the singing of the Christmas carol Silent Night.

A minute’s silence will be held before the game, and there will also be a collection for the Help The Heroes charity.
