Herne Bay boss Sam Denly happy to bide his time in search for new players after two leave

Sam Denly won’t add to his Herne Bay squad just for the sake of it.
Despite seeing Sam Hasler leave for Folkestone and Stuart Zanone also depart, the Bay boss insists he won’t be rushing to sign replacements.
He said: “I have spoken to a few players and made some approaches but they have to be the right fit for the team and the club.”
Bay head to East Grinstead on Saturday, hoping to complete a good week for the club, following wins against Sittingbourne (3-0) and Three Bridges (3-2).
Denly added: “The 7-0 defeat at Hastings was the low point of the season for me but since then, the players have been outstanding.
“The first three months of the season hasn’t been a great phase for us but hopefully we have turned a corner.
“Another win will see us move closer to mid-table and we have got games in hand on all the clubs around us.”
Bay’s form boost highlights how close the competition is in Ryman League Division 1 South, with only 10 points separating Denly’s side in 19th spot from Cray Wanderers who went sixth on goal difference, following the 2-2 home draw with Whyteleafe on Wednesday.
“I thought we were excellent against Sittingbourne on Tuesday and full value for the win,” said Denly.
“We set the boys a little target before the Three Bridges game – the result there was more important than the performance."
We are where we want to be after the two wins, have got a few players coming back and are looking stronger.
“Joe Nelder and Connor Sanders have both returned and we hope to have Liam Quinn available again soon as well.”
