Sam Denly agrees the trip to fellow promotion contenders Worthing is crucial as the race for the Ryman League, Division 1 South play-offs continues to gather pace.

The West Sussex side haven’t been out of the top-two for weeks but had their six-match unbeaten run stretching back to before Christmas ended by a 3-0 defeat at Hythe at the weekend.

They start five points clear of fourth-placed Bay and boss Denly said of Saturday’s match: “It is a massive game and there is no hiding away from that.

“It is tight, with other teams right on our tails and we want to cement our place in the top five.”

Guernsey are one of them but they lost 1-0 at Corinthian Casuals on Tuesday night, following on the heels of the 2-1 defeat at Ramsgate on Saturday.

Faversham were denied a chance to move above Bay when their match at South Park last night (Wednesday) was called off. Even the Reigate-based side in 12th are not out of
contention.

Denly added: “Worthing a good side, but lost at Hythe, who are flying at the moment
“It’s a 3G pitch down there and they play good football but that’s how we like to play as well.”

Midfielder Lee Browning is the club’s only injury worry and Denly will check on his recovery from a calf muscle problem.
