Herne Bay joint-boss John Embery confident in his side's ability

Herne Bay joint boss John Embery is not thinking about where his side will finish in the league this season.

Bay are 11th in Bostik South and making up ground on teams in the play-off places.

They have won two of their last three matches and Embery has been impressed with how dominant his team have been.

They lost to Chipstead 3-0 on Saturday but beat Faversham 3-1 on Boxing Day.

He said: “We just take it game by game and see where it takes us. We know we are not going to get relegated. If we approach the games in the right way, we will be OK.

“We beat Carshalton and should have done the same against Chipstead. Two out of three wins isn’t too bad.

“I will tell my players to approach the game in the same way we have done in the last three games.

“They have been playing well. The players know we must make sure we do not make errors. If we do that, we know we will be all right.”

Embery believes his side’s defeat against Chipstead did not reflect their performance and it was down to errors that cost them.

He was happy with the win over Faversham and thinks his side could have scored more goals were it not for the Town goalkeeper.

He added: “The Chipstead game was a strange one because it was the most dominant we have been all season.

“Even their manager said after the game he didn’t know how they managed to win 3-0. We dominated from start to finish.

“We made some mistakes for their goals and I think they only had three shots in the whole game and scored all of them. It has been our problem all season.

“We played well and deserved the win against Faversham. We should have scored more but their goalkeeper made some good saves.”

Bay face tough tests in the final two games over the festive period. On Saturday they host 12th-placed Hastings before travelling to play Hythe on New Year’s Day.
