KENT golfer Steve Tiley has been handed an early birthday present in the shape of an England call-up.
The 21-year-old Royal Cinque Ports member from Herne Bay is one of four new caps selected for the Home Internationals at Prestwick next month.
Tiley, who is also a member at Chestfield and Canterbury, has happy memories of his last trip to the Ayrshire coast when he just failed to make the cut at Royal Troon.
He will be 22 the day after the championships and is being released by his American college, Georgia State University in Atlanta, to play in the event.
Tiley recently reached the fourth round of the English Amateur Championship at Notts Golf Club.
Six of the the squad were in the side narrowly beaten by France at Royal St George’s in Sandwich in May. England last won the Home Internationals at Woodhall Spa in 2001. Ireland are the defending champions.
