FC Waterford created a big upset in the Herne Bay and Whitstable Sunday League’s Challenge Cup with a 2-1 win away to Chartham that sent out the message that they will be a match for anyone in the next round.
The outcome would have been different had Steven Bains not missed a 90th minute penalty for Chartham.
Dan Savage and Karl Sutcliffe scored for Waterford with Bains replying.
Bay Wanderers cantered through to the next round with an emphatic 3-0 win over Littlebourne. Bay dominated from start to finish and their goals from Louis Brister (2)and Sam Pooley did not reflect their superiority.
The step-up in divisions for Radfall proved too great as they went down 2-0 to Broomfield. Goals from Clive Stace and Billy Bowman ensured Broomfield’s place in the next round.
Courtney overcame a potential banana skin with the visit of Division 4 Bridge, dispatching their visitors 4-1. Courtney goalscorers were Dean Brabon (2) and Jason Mills (2). Tony Huggins netted a consolation goal for Bridge.
Whitstable Wanderers were eclipsed in the cup away to rampant Cross Keys who hit them for eight without conceding.
Dave Nugent (2), Mat Bishop (2), Andy Haywood, Rob Edwards, Steven Croucher and Del Harris were the scorers.
