A suspected burglar has been arrested following a break-in at a shop which saw an estimated £13,000 of stock taken.

At least five electric bikes were stolen from Cycle Fixit in Hythe during an overnight raid on Wednesday, September 18.

It is thought vandals broke in through the High Street store's back door, which was left severely damaged and in need of extensive repairs.

An appeal was launched with CCTV images released by police after the break-in.

Following the investigation, a 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary on Tuesday (November 5).

Cannabis was found during a subsequent search of a property in Cornes Close, Willesborough, Ashford and the man was further arrested on suspicion of drugs offences.

Speaking to KentOnline last month, Adam Parsons, from Cycle Fixit, estimated the total cost of the raid had set the business back £15,000.

He added: “Replacing the bikes cost £13,000.

“We worked out that around £1,000 in [further] stock was taken, my laptop which cost around £450 and replacing the rear doors cost about £1,100.

“I would say this has impacted the business. People just aren't bringing as many repairs into us because they're a bit worried it could happen again.

“It’s been a tough couple of weeks but this is why we are spending the money securing the shop.

“I’m confident we can get back on our feet.”
