Bizarre 20mph paint job baffles Saltwood villagers
14:00, 09 September 2017
These shoddy road markings outside a school in one Kent village have been amusing and bemusing its residents.
The half-painted 20mph traffic calming measures this month appeared outside Saltwood Primary School, in School Road, Hythe.
The markings appeared after gas works were carried out under the road, and it appears only the new Tarmac is worthy of fresh paint.
Sam Hawkes is a 43-year-old father who lives on the road and he walks his children past the slap-dash paint job every day.
And it makes him laugh.
He said: “Every time we walk past it we just think ‘oh my god’, how can this happen? It does make us laugh.
“On a serious note though the markings are right outside of a school and they should be seen a lot more clearly.
“It appeared after the road was dug up and the tarmac replaced, there were gas repairs being carried out under the road.
“I think it’s either the council penny pinching or a subcontractor hasn’t used their brain.
"What's going on?"
He added more of the bizarre markings have appeared further along School Road, bringing the total to about four.
The Express has contacted Kent County Council, the authority responsible for roads, for a comment.
