Gorillas in the Christmas spirit at Port Lympne wildlife park
09:22, 20 December 2017
Gorillas at a Kent wildlife park have been getting in the Christmas spirit thanks to an array of festive treats.
The enclosure at the Port Lympne reserve in Hythe has been decorated with two trees covered in fruit and vegetable baubles.
Keepers have now released footage of the happy apes picking at the healthy snacks.
The animals are seen pulling treats from the tree, with one shown standing on his hind legs with armfuls of vegetables.
At one point, a baby joins in on the action.
Head gorilla keeper Phil Ridges says: "Enrichment is a vital component in our daily routine and helps to stimulate our animals, keeping them interested, occupied and happy.
"The treats themselves will go down very well but the trees also provide their own enrichment and the gorillas will spend time working out how to get them out of the ground and eat them too."
The trees were donated by the Bunnings Warehouse in Folkestone.
