Two Kent restaurants have been ranked among the “best of the best” in the country by Tripadvisor reviewers.
The establishments - the Hide and Fox, near Hythe, and The Dog at Wingham, near Canterbury - have been named in the website’s Travellers' Choice awards.
Top in the county is Hide and Fox, which was voted fourth best restaurant in the UK and the 18th best in Europe.
Since opening in 2019, the Michelin-starred venue has garnered glowing reviews for the quality of cooking being produced by chef Allister Barsby at the former general store in Saltwood.
One visitor wrote of the eatery on Tripadvisor: “We visit the Hide and Fox perhaps once per month and it is always exceptional.
“The food, service and wine pairings are some of the best we’ve ever experienced and keep us going back and recommending to all of our friends.”
A five-course meal at the Hide and Fox costs £75, with an extra £60 for wine pairing.
Just over 15 miles away, The Dog at Wingham came in sixth place in the “hidden gems” category.
The Dog, which also has eight B&B rooms, recently won a Muddy Stilettos 2022 award for Best Boutique Stay.
The gastropub is owned and run by Marc Bridgen and shot to international attention earlier this year after the staff went viral for taking part in a TikTok trend.
A reviewer of The Dog shared on Tripadvisor: “A great friendly experience with superb food and atmosphere, really enjoyed and would happily go again.”
Among the main courses available is a flat iron steak with fries which costs £26.
The 2023 Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best award is seen as Tripadvisor's highest honour.
Each year, the site combs through reviews, ratings, and online saves and likes from travellers everywhere, and then uses that information to present awards to the very best destinations in the business.
Tripadvisor’s Sarah Firshein says she is proud all the winners were chosen by “real diners” rather than professional critics.
“Restaurants provide a great way for travellers to get immersed in a destination's history and culture,” she said.
“This year’s Travellers’ Choice Restaurant winners – whose diversity and geographic reach reflect the fact that the last remaining pandemic-era travel restrictions have lifted – are especially exciting.”
