A petrol station worker was assaulted when he refused to give robbers money in the early hours of this morning.

Police have arrested a man but are now looking for witnesses to the incident at the Seabrook Road petrol station in Hythe.

A 26-year-old from Hythe has been remanded in custody. A second man is being hunted and officers this afternoon released a description.

The victim, a man in his 50s, was reportedly attacked after two men entered the shop at 12.40am. He suffered bruising to his head.

One of the raiders demanded money from the till but the worker refused and a row broke out.

The pair are then said to have ran out of the shop with four cans of beer.

Investigating officer Det Sgt Stephanie Devon said: "A 26-year-old man from Hythe has been arrested and remains in custody.

"Inquiries are ongoing to locate a suspect, who is described as a white man aged between 20 and 30 years old, around 5ft 8ins tall with a lean build.

"He was reportedly wearing a black top and had mousey brown hair.

"We would ask anyone with any information about the incident to contact us."
