Hythe High Street has been evacuated by police after a suspicious package was discovered at the post office.
The street was taped off between Bank Street and Malthouse Hill just before 1pm.
The Ministry of Defence bomb disposal unit was called to investigate and surrounding shops, flats and the post office itself were evacuated.
A Kent Police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 12.37pm to a report a suspicious item had been left in the Post Office, Hythe.
"The item was believed not to be dangerous but was assessed by the MoD explosive ordnance disposal team at the scene.
"High Street and Three Post Lane were closed during this time."
The high street has now been reopened.
