Hythe Town boss Clive Cook in confident mood ahead of their Ryman League play-off semi-final at Worthing

Hythe Town are fired up for their play-off semi-final at Worthing on Tuesday night.

The Cannons had a scout at Worthing's game against Ramsgate on Saturday, which the Rebels won 2-1 to leapfrog Hythe in the final table to secure home advantage.

Clive Cook's side finished fourth in Ryman League Division 1 South but the manager can't wait to get stuck into the Sussex side for the right to play in Saturday's final.

He said: "I’m looking forward to it. It’s going into the lion’s den and it’ll be a big crowd.

"They played 'We are the champions' after their game on Saturday. Let them do it, let them carry on with that. I’m quite happy with that because that’s tempting fate.

"We’ll be up for it and if we go down, we’ll go down playing well.

"I’m looking forward to how the boys are going to come out. We’ve got a game plan and if they adhere to it, we’ll win the game - end of story.

"We know what we’ve got to do, we know what’s in front of us, so it’s who’s got the bottle now.

"They’re cock-a-hoop they got the home draw and we would probably be the same. Let’s just see where we land. I’m looking forward to going into the next game on Saturday."

Hythe lost 4-0 at Faversham on the final day of the regular season, a result which saw their Kent rivals sneak into fifth place and a semi-final at second-placed Dorking Wanderers.

But Cook said: "I didn’t even have to say anything. I saw the response in the dressing-room, I heard what they were saying so I haven’t got a problem at all.

"I’ve got every confidence that we will step up to the plate and win the game.

"There’s no pressure. We’re the underdogs, there’s no doubt about that. That’s how we’ll be seen because everyone’s seen how we played on Saturday, blah blah blah.

"I’ve had reports back from the Saturday game, I had someone there, I get on very well with Ramsgate and they’ve given me a full run-down, a dossier. I don’t really need it on how I feel about it but I take it, I’ve read it, I’ve digested it and I’m thankful for it.

"We’ve got a game plan, just like we did against Folkestone, against Molesey away, in all the big games we’ve played. If we execute our game plan like I know we can, we’ll win the game and we’ll be moving on to Saturday. If we don’t execute it, we’ll get beat.

"We’ve got to put the fire out in the first 15 minutes. We know what it’s going to be, we know what’s going to happen and we’re going to break it down into sections and see where we land.

"I’m very confident about this one. I wasn’t on Sunday but I woke up on Monday with a different trust in what I’ve got, the players and my squad."
