Hythe Town manager Steve Watt says Cannons are now looking up rather than down in Isthmian South East

Steve Watt says Hythe are going into the new year with a much more positive outlook after stretching their unbeaten run to three matches.

Town's 2-0 win at Ramsgate on December 21 made it seven points from the last nine, and three successive clean sheets in Isthmian South East.

That run – which followed successive 4-1 defeats – has helped lift the Cannons up to 13th and manager Watt says having most of his squad fit has been a big factor.

He explained: "If you're a team at this level and you're missing two or three starters it's tough.

"You just try to do the best you can but when everyone is fit it breeds confidence.

"Before we were trying not to lose games, now we're trying to win them.

"The one thing I will say is that even when things weren't going as well as we hoped the dressing room was brilliant.

"There are a lot of players in there who are not used to not winning but I think the Guernsey game (where they drew 0-0 with a depleted side) was a big turning point.

"That result helped galvanise the players and gave us belief."

Kaka Dembele and Sam Blackman scored the goals at Ramsgate and Watt says it's pleasing to see the goals being spread around the team.

He added: "We've probably not got that prolific striker at the moment.

"We've got Frannie Collin, who has proved prolific in the past, but he's had something of a stop-start season through injury.

"We're not relying on one person, we've got players all over the pitch who have goals in them and in the last two games we've managed to score at important times.

"I think there were only a couple of minutes before the first and second goals against VCD (in the 3-0 win) and against Ramsgate there was five minutes between the goals.

"It shows we're not trying to rest on what we've got, we're trying to go out and kill the game."

Hythe's side against Ramsgate included defender Tom Wynter who joined the Cannons following his release from the Thanet club earlier in the week.

Watt acted swiftly to bring in the former Dartford and Margate man after losing Ollie Rowe, who is taking time out of the game after becoming a father.

Watt explained: "Ollie and I had a chat, and his priorities are at home with his family, he wanted to be around more to support his his wife and the little one and I totally understand that."
