Hythe Town boss Clive Cook says his team must come out with the right attitude against promotion rivals Worthing

Hythe Town’s mental state could be the key on Saturday when they welcome high-flying Worthing to Reachfields.

Cannons were due to visit Peacehaven last weekend but the game was postponed while Worthing were beating Sittingbourne 3-0 on their 3G pitch just along the south coast.

They arrive in Kent second in Ryman League, Division 1 South and having scored 18 goals during a six-match unbeaten run.

But Hythe are also in form – having won four in a row – and boss Clive Cook has issued a challenge to his players ahead of the game.

He said: "They’ve got to have the right mentality, the right mindset going into this game and we’ve got that. We’ve beaten the sides above us – Herne Bay, Faversham, Dorking, Folkestone – and we’ve performed against them.

"As long as we perform, as long as we turn up, as long as we come out with the right attitude, as long as we put in a shift, I feel we’ve got enough to win the game.

"We all feel confident in what we’ve got down there at the moment and I’m disappointed more about losing the football match last Saturday.

"I like to keep things going because when you keep playing, it breeds enjoyment and confidence. When you get a blip like last Saturday, you’ve got to start building again."

Hythe have won nine of their last 11 games but they lost 2-0 at Worthing on December 15.

Cook said: "They’re the best footballing side we’ve played, no doubt about it.

"They’re a good side and we’re under no illusion as to what’s in front of us but as long as we do what we’re good at, I feel we’ve got enough to win.

"It’s going to be a tough game but we can’t wait to play them.

"We’ve done our homework on them – we had them watched on Saturday – so we know what we’re doing with them.

"We know what they’re all about so it’s just a matter of doing our bit first and then hopefully that will be enough to get the points.

"We know how to beat them. It’s just a matter of us performing 8/10 and putting in a good solid performance."
