Hythe Town go in search of a seventh straight home win this weekend and boss Clive Cook has called on locals to back his team’s play-off push.

On Saturday the Cannons welcome struggling Walton & Hersham to Reachfields, where they’ve picked up a maximum 18 points during a run stretching back to October.

Cook isn’t exactly shouting about Hythe’s home form from the rooftops but he says more support like the 1,527 crowd which turned up for the Christmas derby against Folkestone would be welcome.

He said: "As soon as I say something, it’ll probably come back and bite me.

"We’re happy at home or away. We’re relaxed about where we go and what we’re doing.

"It’s lovely to play at home. It’s good to have a fortress but that fortress can get knocked down if you get too complacent. We’ve got to be professional in what we do.

"It’s been a long time, almost a month, since our last home game. We’ve had nothing since then and I do hope people come and look because we are going well.

"We are playing some decent stuff and are attractive to watch because we make so many chances.

"We’re doing all right away from home and enjoy going away from home. The amount of support we had, all the way down at Dorking (on Saturday) was fantastic.

"It means a lot to the players when they come off and we’ve got 40 fans there. Away from home, it’s a good feeling for them.

"Walton & Hersham is another difficult game. We’ve just got to do the business, go out and be professional."
