Hythe Town boss Tim Dixon insists he is still the right man to lead the club despite an eight-match winless run

Speculation surrounding Tim Dixon’s position as Hythe manager continues this week after two more defeats for the Cannons.

Hythe crashed out of the FA Cup at home to Chessington & Hook on Saturday and picked up their sixth red card of the season.

That was followed by a 3-0 derby defeat at Folkestone on Monday, leaving Town in the Ryman League Division 1 South relegation zone and still without a win.

Dixon said: "Last year our season didn’t get going until September, when we pulled together and pushed on and I don’t think this season is going to be much different.

"It’s not ideal and it gets everyone’s heads down. Questions are asked of me and my managerial capabilities, whether I’m the right man to carry the club forward.

"I believe I am but you can’t put it on bad luck all the time. We’ve caused our own problems, which have been addressed and now we’ve got to stop making excuses."

Paul Chambers (Ashford) and Will Graham (Whitstable) both lost their jobs in August – so does Dixon worry about his name being added to that list?

"All the time," he admitted. "You’ve got to be top of the league and happy with your squad and I’m neither of those things at the moment.

"There will always be people talking. Paul Chambers was at the game on Monday and people were talking about him maybe taking over from me.

"That’s hard because he’s a good friend of mine but it’s one of those things. I would never hold a grudge against the next person coming in.

"If the Hythe board think I’m not the man, good luck to the club. I won’t bear a grudge.

"It’s a results industry and if we’re not putting in performances and getting results and we’re down at the bottom of the league – well, no-one wants to be down there.

"I’ve not spoken to the chairman about my future but I know other people are talking about it. I’ve just got to get on with it and I’m more worried about the next result.

"There’s a board meeting on Thursday so I’ll have a chat with the chairman and tell him how I see things. He might see it differently and if he does, that’s the way it is."
