The three strikers on trial at Hythe Town are set to learn their fate as manager Tim Dixon looks to finalise his squad for the new season.

Ryan Philpott, Jordan Wells and Sam Conlon all played against Ashford United on Saturday in the absence of injured forward Craig Thompson.

Wells, the former Whitstable and Lordswood player, scored twice in the friendly at Reachfields to push his case for a deal with Hythe.

Dixon said: "His hold-up play was good and I’m looking for a striker, so Jordan’s in the frame. He’s got a good eye for goal.

"Nicky Southall rated him highly when he was manager at Whitstable but he dislocated his shoulder the first game after I was sacked at Ramsgate.

"It could be interesting with Jordan but I’m still looking."

Philpott, nicknamed Vinnie, and ex-Ashford striker Conlon are also in the frame.

Dixon said: "Vinnie got a goal through sheer determination and perseverance. He looks lively. People are getting used to playing a certain way and he’s done well.

"Sam Conlon came on at half-time and didn’t do himself any harm at all."
