Steve Watt is confident wins are on the way for Hythe Town after a difficult run of games.

The Cannons have taken two points from matches against Ashford, Chatham, Cray Valley and Whitehawk - four of the best sides in Isthmian South East.

There was little wrong with the performance at Whitehawk on Saturday, where goals at the end of either half saw Watt’s team beaten 2-0.

Defeat leaves them 16th, outside the bottom four on goal difference.

This Saturday, they host Lancing, the team immediately above them, in a 2pm kick-off at Reachfields.

The challenge is to turn their encouraging performances into wins.

“By all accounts we were very unlucky at Whitehawk,” said boss Watt, who had to miss the game.

“We played really well and should have got something out of it.

“It’s something I’ve highlighted in recent weeks, that we are playing really well, we’re just not getting the rub of the green, the ball’s not falling for us.

“I’m certainly not concerned with the way things are going.

“The only game I was concerned about was the Chatham one (6-1 defeat) but we’ve drawn with Ashford and Cray Valley either side of that and they're games we should have won given how we played.

"There’s no shame in losing to Chatham, although I wasn’t happy with the manner of the defeat, and there’s no shame in losing to Whitehawk.

“The draws are more disappointing because we had more than enough opportunities to win those games.

“We’ve had a tough batch of fixtures but we’ve got games coming up against sides in and around us now.

“We have to keep doing what we’re doing and I’m sure the tide will turn for us.

“I firmly believe things level out over the course of the season.

“We’re just falling short at the minute but if the boys keep playing the way they’re playing and creating chances, we will win games.”

Watt is in the market for a central defender after Ollie Gray joined Faversham at the end of last week.

The Cannons couldn’t compete financially with their Kent rivals.

“We wish him well,” said Watt. “He’s been great for us, and I’d have loved to have kept him.

“But we can’t compete with clubs who are throwing money around like Faversham are at the minute."

“We’ll add to the squad when we can but it has to be the right individual.”
