Awards for EcoSan boss Sonja Wood
10:15, 05 April 2012
Award-winning Kent boss Sonja Wood has added two more trophies to her collection.
The director of washroom recycling business EcoSan Services cleaned up in the Institute of Directors’ London and South East awards.
She was named Director of the Year for a Business with turnover up to £4.99m as well as New Director of the Year.
She was the only female director and the only one from Kent to reach the finals this year.
EcoSan, based in Ashford, won a 2011 Kent Excellence in Business Award (KEiBA) for Business Commitment to the Environment, and Ms Wood was a finalist in the Entrepreneur of the Year category.
She said: "I hope that my success will inspire more women to become directors as I feel there is a shortage in this country."
Rodger Broad, IoD south east director, said: "The South East is the powerhouse of the UK economy and the efforts of directors such as Sonja and our other winners, along with many others around the region, will help drive the UK’s economic recovery.
"Her success in this year’s awards is just reward for her hard work and vision and I congratulate her."
Ms Wood now goes forward to the national final.
EcoSan was the first southern-based business to offer sanitary, nappy and incontinence recycling, and recently recorded another first by recycling chewing gum.
