A logistics business backed by a private equity firm has bought another transport company for an undisclosed sum.
Carousel, based in Sittingbourne, has taken over AYS, which has its headquarters in Solihull, near Birmingham.
Bosses said the deal was part of its “rigorous growth strategy” since private equity firm Livingbridge invested in the business in 2013.
AYS employs 36 people and offers short-notice and express deliveries, as well as warehousing and same-day transport of delicate items.
“It is complementary to Carousel’s service offerings in the agriculture, renewables and medical device sectors,” said Carousel managing director Graham Martin.
“In bringing AYS’s expertise in-house, we will greatly enhance our service offering supported by a like-minded team focused on a transparent and first class service.”
Carousel, which employs about 70 people, will incorporate all staff at its new acquisition and put its managing director Jane Weaver in its business development unit.
AYS will trade under its new owner’s name.
Carousel is headquartered in Eurolink business park and led by brothers Graham Martin and Michael Martin.
Last year its turnover grew 3% to £16.8 million and pre-tax profits increased 4.8% to £1.7 million, according to its latest accounts.
