Eurostar passengers face possible disruption this weekend after drivers confirmed that their two-day strike is going ahead.

Although train managers called off their proposed industrial action over expenses and allowances, ASLEF, the drivers’ union, confirmed on Thursday that the stoppage on Friday and Saturday "seems certain to go ahead".

Drivers are angry that the value of their international allowances has dropped because of the falling value of the pound against the euro.

However, Eurostar bosses insist there will be no disruption for passengers and that drivers from France and Belgium will be called in to replace the striking drivers.

They say there will be a normal service between St Pancras International, Ebbsfleet, Ashford, Lille, Brussels and Paris.

Meanwhile, ASLEF has called off a planned strike on First Capital Connect after the company made an improved pay offer.
