A recycling firm has been awarded a contract potentially worth £6m from a waste collection authority in London.
Countrystyle Recycling has been given a two-year contract, with the option of extending it by a further two year, worth more than £1.5m a year.
The Maidstone-based firm will collect and compost up to 60,000 tonnes of organic waste in six boroughs for West London Waste Authority.
Mixed food and green waste will be treated at Countrystyle’s composting facility in Ridham, where it will be processed into a certified compost product for use as an agricultural fertiliser.
Countrystyle Recycling’s managing director Chris Howard said: “This is a great win for us and demonstrates our continued ability to provide professional, reliable and cost effective solutions for local authorities, both in regards to collection and treatment services.”
West London Waste Authority chair Cllr Bassam Mahfouz added: “Food and garden waste composting is key to achieving our objective of recycling 50% of waste by 2020. We look forward to a successful partnership with Countrystyle Recycling.”
