The vast majority of Kent and Medway businesses taking part in a survey say they are confident for the future despite the twin challenges of Brexit and Covid.

Accountants and business advisors Kreston Reeves, which has offices in Canterbury, Chatham and Sandwich, polled 59 firms during the Kent and Medway Business Summit held online last month.

And 67% declared themselves 'confident' for the future, with 26% 'very confident'.

That's despite 41% of those quizzed saying their turnover had 'decreased significantly' and 25% 'decreased a little' as a direct result of the pandemic.

In addition, 30% said their business had been affected by Brexit - with supply chains presenting the biggest challenges.

Others cited issues around the import and export of goods, workforce, transport and logistics, intellectual property and VAT.

Andrew Griggs, senior partner and head of international at Kreston Reeves, said: “The Kent and Medway Business Summit was held entirely virtually this year.

“The over-arching theme was resilience and the positivity businesses in the county hold towards their future. Despite the impact of Covid and Brexit, businesses in Kent and Medway are confident in their ability to bounce back and thrive.

“With all the economic, social, technological and political changes and challenges we are experiencing, it’s important that businesses remember to talk to and support each other, continue to look for opportunities, remain agile, adapt and innovate. They must continue to look ahead and plan for the future.”
