London Paramount resort: Over 50 companies around Swanscombe could be kicked off their premises after receiving letters from developers
09:01, 09 April 2015
More than 50 companies are expected to be turfed out of their offices and warehouses by the Paramount entertainment resort after bosses were sent letters from the scheme’s developers.
The letters, seen by Kent Business, were sent to firms within the boundary of the proposed planning application for the attraction, which covers land around the Swanscombe Peninsula down to the A2 stretching from Pepper Hill to Bean.
The correspondence outlines powers given to developers London Resort Company Holdings (LRCH), which will give them the right to force companies off the land needed for the resort.
There are around 300 landowners who have received letters including a handful of homeowners, although no one is expected to be required to leave their home.
It is understood LRCH is already in talks with all the businesses concerned. A spokesman said the company does not expect to have to use its powers and that all relocations can be settled amicably.
The correspondence, sent by compulsory purchase specialists Ardent on behalf of LRCH, is required by law under the resort’s status as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project.
It gives developers the right to apply for a Development Consent Order, giving them powers to “acquire the necessary land and rights over land in order to construct and operate the resort” according to the letter.
LRCH is expected to apply for this status in the autumn.
The letter asks recipients to declare whether they are a landowner so they can be consulted on the proposals before the Development Consent Order is applied for.
