BA flight from Helsinki forced to land at Manston Airport due to fog at Heathrow
11:45, 01 April 2014
A British Airways flight bound for Heathrow was diverted to Manston Airport today due to fog.
The Airbus320 was diverted after setting off from Helsinki this morning.
It landed at 8.50am and then departed again at 10.35am after refueling.
Manston Airport chief executive Charles Buchanan said: "All passenger and freight flights at Manston continue to operate normally and the airport is available for further diversion should the need arise.”
Staff are still waiting to hear the outcome of an anonymous bid to to save the airport after a 45-day consultation on its closure was launched last month.
Scottish businesswoman Ann Gloag, who founded Stagecoach, bought the site for £1 in November.
