Asphalt maker FM Conway has invested £7 million in a new fleet of vehicles amid proposals to extend London's low emission area.
The Sevenoaks-based infrastructure firm - which builds and maintains roads, buildings and public spaces - has bought about 150 lorries and tippers, taking its total number to more than 900 once the last batch arrives in early 2019.
It comes as the Mayor of London carries out a consultation on extending the Ultra-Low Emission Zone across the whole city for lorries from 2020.
It would also go up to the North and South circular roads for all vehicles from late 2021.
FM Conway's fleet includes about 80 vehicles which meet new European emissions standards.
Transport manager Peter Parle said: “Whether it’s investing in plant and vehicle emission technology or cycle safety, FM Conway aims to pave the way on best practice for construction logistics.
"This latest move will ensure that our vehicle fleet continues to meet the highest environmental standards, helping to improve London’s air quality and supporting our many construction projects in the capital.”
