A panel of experts will attend a free online webinar this week to help firms navigate new trade rules in place as a consequence of Brexit.

The EU Transition: Ask the Experts session runs from 10.30am to 12.30pm tomorrow, Tuesday and is hosted on Zoom.

Hosted by the Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce, it will allow participants to pose questions on issues being encountered.

Among those taking part will be Kent County Council's principal Trading Standards office, Nathan Moore, an expert in food standards legislation; Deirdre Wells, chief executive of Visit Kent; VAT specialist at MHA MacIntyre Hudson, Sue Rathmell; and Kent Invicta Chamber import and export advisor Graham Card.

And while the government announced last week it was pushing back the introduction of import checks and inspections by six months to enable businesses to focus on recovering from the pandemic, firms still need to get ready for new requirements for bringing goods into the country from October 1.

KCC head of Trading Standards, Steve Rock, said: “Businesses are still learning how to be compliant with new export rules that came in at the start of the year.

“The good news is there’s now more time to prepare for import changes so I want to encourage firms to use that time wisely and make good use of the support on hand – whether you bring goods into the country directly, or via supply chains.

“Making mistakes that lead to delays at the border, or cause a general disruption in the flow of products and supplies, costs both time and money - so it really does pay to be prepared.”

The event will be chaired by the Kent & Medway Growth Hub’s Tudor Price and a recording of the session made available after to delegates.

Businesses are asked to submit their questions for panel members during the registration process. Places are still available - click here for details.
