Eurotunnel freight levels return to pre-Covid levels but tourist traffic down 55% compared to last year

Eurotunnel chiefs say freight traffic levels in October were back to pre-Covid levels.
Getlink , its parent company, says it carried some 142,542 trucks through the Channel Tunnel - just 7% down on the same month last year.
Last year's figures had been swollen due to stockpiling ahead of the expected October 31 Brexit deadline.
However, just 92,458 tourist vehicles used the service - linking Folkestone to Coquelles - down 55% on 2019 figures.
Travel to France continues to be hit hard by the Covid crisis which has meant travellers to our nearest neighbours must quarantine on their return.
Last month the firm revealed revenues had dipped by 17% in the third quarter of the financial year as a result of the pandemic.
