Eurotunnel freight traffic level's 'second highest November ever' as Brexit looms

Despite the pandemic and the travel restrictions which come with it, cross-Channel operator Eurotunnel has recorded the second highest level of freight traffic for the month of November in its history.
The firm, which reported in last month's figures that traffic on its Le Shuttle Freight service were back to pre-Covid levels, said November traffic was up 11% (145,729 trucks) on the same time last year.
But Getlink, its parent company, pointed out the rise in traffic was likely to be from a "stockpiling effect" due to the impending end of the Brexit transition period on December 31.
Since the start of the year, 1.3m trucks have used the service - it is currently down 10% year-on-year for January to November.
However, the picture for tourist traffic remains more gloomy.
In November, Le Shuttle transported 50,985 tourist vehicles - down 64% on the same month in 2019.
Year-on-year, tourist traffic is down 45%.
