A hairdresser is preparing to welcome back customers tomorrow - and will be cutting hair from midnight in a bid to satisfy demand.

With salons and barbers forced to shut since March, many are desperate to get a trim.

And the government has given the nod to reopen on Saturday, July 4.

Now one outlet - The Chair in Northgate, Canterbury - is planning to throw open their doors for appointments the first minute they are allowed to do so.

In addition, it will open seven-days-a-week with extended hours to cope with demand.

As required by government, all staff will be wearing PPE, there will be no refreshments or magazines available and clients will be asked to pay by card.

Owner Katie Hancock says her team of 14 stylists will be split into two teams working across four floors while an outside garden terrace will be used as a second reception area to ensure two-metre social distancing.

She added: “After trading for 17 years we have built a hugely loyal client base and are doing everything we can to ensure we can see as many of them back as soon as possible whilst still prioritising safety, health and hygiene for both clients and staff.”

On the first day, it will open from midnight with Katie and colleague Mary working until 4pm - being joined by other team members from 8am.

It will then open from 7am to 9pm Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm on Saturdays and 8am-3pm on Sundays.
