W. J. Farrier & Son – an Independent Family-Run Funeral Directors with branches in Dover and Folkestone – has spread its wings to Hythe and will soon be opening its doors to the public.

Established in 1948, the well-known family business is now in their third generation and has served the communities in South East Kent for decades, conducting thousands of funeral during that time.

Julie Farrier: “Chris and Sonia are very well known in the Folkestone and Hythe areas and so the communities will know that they will be in safe and secure hands.”

“We’re the only Independent Family Funeral Directors in Folkestone and the longest serving Family Funeral Directors in Dover so it was the natural choice to move to Hythe where the area doesn’t have an Independent Funeral Director,” said James Farrier who manages the firm.

“We will offer the Hythe community the same high levels of service and professional that we provide in the other areas.”

The new branch is located at The Island, Red Lion Square (CT21 5AU) and will officially open on Monday, October 28.

Husband and wife team Chris and Sonia Daughters recently joined the business and the pair have a combined 50 years of experience between them in the funeral industry, gaining a wealth of knowledge and respect from the local community.

“Chris and Sonia are very well known in the Folkestone and Hythe areas and so the communities will know that they will be in safe and secure hands,” said Julie Farrier, who manages the Folkestone office.

They both worked under Phil Chittenden in Folkestone for many years but after his sad death in 2016 and the fact that the business had been taken over by a national firm some years before, Chris and Sonia felt they were unable to fulfil their potential being governed by a conglomerate firm.

Chris - who joined W. J. Farrier & Son in 2017 before his wife Sonia joined a year later - said, “Being part of a family firm again has enabled both Sonia and I to do what we do best, without the restrictions of national management.”

“We work alongside the Farrier family and this is very similar to the early days with Mr Chittenden. Because they are very family orientated, this was one of the main reasons why we both decided to make the move.”

The Farrier family continue to operate from the original premises on London Road in Dover and Bouverie Road West in Folkestone.

W. J. Farrier & Son has an extensive fleet of Jaguar hearses and limousines as well as a fleet of first-call vehicles, which are equipped to deal with any situation.

Although most of the funerals are carried out in the Dover and Folkestone areas, they also regularly conduct funerals in Ashford, Canterbury, London, and even further afield.
