Kent architects have scooped a top award for designing a unique building for young disabled people.

Lee Evans Partnership, based in Canterbury, won the Pinders Healthcare Award in the Independent Living category for a pioneering project in Washington, West Sussex.

Chris Hollins, BBC Breakfast sports presenter and winner of Strictly Come Dancing, presented the award at Lords Cricket Ground.

The winning project at East Clayton Farm is the first shared ownership scheme in the UK for young people with profound and multiple disabilities.

Lee Evans worked with MiLife UK, the Lorica Trust and landlords the National Trust to convert dilapidated Victorian farm buildings into what project architect Graham Doyle called a unique scheme and a state of the art complex.

He said: “We are delighted to receive this award. I can honestly say it was a challenging but highly rewarding project.â€
