The owners of the former Manston airport have begun selling off equipment from the site today.

Bidders have been able to buy 701 lots ranging from fire trucks to flat-screen televisions during the online auction.

It is estimated owners Kent Facilities Limited have made more than £100,000 on 330 lots, although with many other items sold privately, this figure is likely to be much higher.

The sale is being handled by Peaker Pattinson Auctioneers, based in Lincolnshire, and ends tomorrow at 5pm.

Lots include boarding steps, an aircraft de-icer, mobile baggage conveyors, Land Rovers and specialist fire engines.

Several items from the terminals are also for sale, including metal detectors, baggage scanners and even rows of seats.

The airport’s owners Kent Facilities Limited – owned by Stagecoach founder Ann Gloag – are putting the items under the hammer following the closure of the airport in May.

The day's final three lots, each forklift trucks, went under the hammer at £32,900, £29,350 and £28,400, each attracting more than 100 bids.

After the first 20 lots, the auction had made more than £1,000.

Items from duty-free shops proved popular, with Mabelline eye liner and Christina Aguilera perfume each attracting more than 30 bids and selling for over £50.

Lot 117, an x-ray machine, was valued at more than £6,150.

Lot 119, a metal detector, went under the hammer for more than £500.

Lot 121, an x-ray liquid detection system, attracted bids in excess of £18,000.

A series of forklift trucks attracted bids of £11,000, £18,000 and £13,000.

A baggage conveyor sold for £4,000.

The website is accepting bids for tomorrow. The first items go under the hammer at 9.30am.
