The first Amazon Fresh store outside of London is opening today in the county - allowing shoppers to scan to get in, shop and then just walk out.
Situated in the Bligh's Meadow shopping centre in Sevenoaks, the store will sell its own branded food goods and groceries.
It comes weeks after it closed its 4-Star shop in Bluewater - just months after its grand opening. It said at the time it was to focus, instead, on other traditional retail ventures such as its Fresh outlets.
The store opened this morning on the site of the former Baby Gap store.
Customers will need the Amazon app on their smart phone to enter the store, but can then put their phone away as the store uses what the online giant terms 'Just Walk Out' technology to automatically detect when products are taken from or returned to the shelves.
Once the shop is complete, customers can leave the store without having to queue for a check-out and the charge made automatically to their Amazon account.
Matt Birch, director of Amazon Fresh stores, said: “We’ve heard from customers that they appreciate the seamless shopping experience the Just Walk Out technology enables, as well as the wide selection of food. Customers will also find our dedicated store team ready to help as they shop.”
It will also be a pick-up point for items bought - or needing to be returned - through Amazon's online store.
The store will be open from 7am to 11pm.
