Transport business the Swain Group has bought another haulage firm for an undisclosed sum.
The Strood-based company has taken over Jeffrey’s Haulage Co, which operates from a 16.5 acre site in Derbyshire, where it has a 105,000 sq ft racked warehouse.
The move adds 32 lorries and 60 trailers to Swain’s fleet, although the newly acquired firm will still trade as a stand alone business and retain its name.
Its managing director Fred Perkin will also remain in his post, saying the sale “will further enhance the ongoing development within the company”.

Its managing director Paul Kavanagh said: “This is a good acquisition that fits with the company strategy to acquire businesses operating in appropriate growth sectors.
“The Jeffrey’s operation will complement our existing depot structure, further strengthening our position in the Midlands.”
