Time is running out for manufacturers to sign up to a money-saving waste deal.

The Rethink Waste scheme, which ends on December 31, could unlock savings worth thousands of pounds by showing companies how they can change their approach to dealing with waste.

The scheme is being run by sustainable business experts at Envirowise, a Government-funded programme, in partnership with the EEF manufacturers association.

Three online modules take businesses through the key stages of collecting benchmarking data, developing an action plan and implementing a waste-saving strategy. Participants will also have access to a virtual factory tour, audiocasts and an exclusive web conference.

Manufacturers taking action to reduce waste and improve their resource efficiency can save up to £1,000 per employee. Across the UK, around £500m could be saved annually.

Since 1994, Envirowise has helped UK businesses save more than £1bn by enabling them to significantly reduce their environmental footprints.

Envirowise regional manager Lisa Mattsson said: “Rethink Waste provides an excellent opportunity for manufacturers in the South East to improve their resource efficiency, and make cost savings, in a planned and measurable way. But with the deadline for registration fast approaching, companies need to act quickly if they want to take part in the initiative.”

Head of Environment at the EEF Gareth Stace, added: “Free initiatives such as Rethink Waste offer a practical and accessible route to resource efficiency and we are encouraging our members to take part.”

Manufacturers should register before December 31 at Envirowise.
