Tension is mounting among the 34 finalists waiting anxiously to find out who will walk away with a handsome glass trophy at the end of the county’s business night of the year.
Chatham Historic Dockyard hosts the sell-out glittering gala on Thursday night, marking the climax of the second annual Kent Excellence in Business Awards (KEiBA).
Results will be announced in The BIG Space, a building that was once home to naval ship construction and repair. A Champagne reception is being held aboard the 19th century ship HMS Gannet.
The decision to stage the glittering gala in Chatham follows the Dockyard’s success in last year’s contest when, in its 25th year, the Trust was named Best Leisure and Tourism Business.
The event, designed to celebrate commercial success and enterprise across Kent and Medway, has attracted 450 business people and their guests, the maximum number that the former slip can hold.
The 2010 KEiBA prompted a record entry of more than 200, with 34 companies and individuals making it to the final. Winners will go home with a trophy and the prestige of knowing they are the best in class.
KEiBA is staged and produced by Kent County Council and the KM Group to recognise and reward excellence in Kent businesses. There are 11 categories ranging from Large Business and Best Social Care Business to Young Entrepreneur of the Year and Outstanding Contribution to the Business Community of Kent..
Kevin Lynes, KCC Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said: "I am so pleased that KEiBA is packed to capacity for the second year running. This shows that it has become a key event in the county’s calendar.
"It is a fantastic opportunity for Kent businesses to showcase the wealth of talent, skills, success and innovation that is helping them grow and prosper even with these difficult economic times.
"In addition to a stunning trophy, winning a KEiBA award will boost staff morale and help attract new business. Success at the KEiBAs will also help businesses raise their profile both in Kent and nationally."
KM Group chairman Geraldine Allinson, said: "KEiBA is a fantastic opportunity to reward businesses for their exceptional performances. It shows clearly that Kent is a great county to establish and grow a business in. Hopefully KEiBA will help to attract businesses to Kent which will further enhance our vibrant economy.”
