For most people, a household pet becomes more than just an animal – they become family.
Here, we’ve profiled 20 of Last Chance Animal Rescues’ adorable pooches in Kent who are desperate to find their forever homes...
Buddy, 9, Bichon and Jack Russell Terrier mix
Buddy is a friendly nine-year-old bichon and Jack Russell Terrier mix, who enjoys short walks and lots of love.
When he was rescued, he was covered in uncomfortable mats – but he has since been clipped and is feeling much better.
Buddy is not great with other dogs and would prefer to be the only pet in the house, but he may be okay with a slow introduction.
He’s currently on a doggy diet as he needs to lose some weight and as he is an older dog, he is looking for an adult home or a home with older children.
Buddy has a few lumps and bumps which vets have checked over and are happy with.
Elsie, 2-4, Greyhound
Elsie is an ex-racing greyhound who is looking to retire and find a sofa to snooze on.
She is between two and four years old and is very placid.
Elsie walks well on the lead and enjoys getting out and about.
She is good with other dogs and will make a lovely companion for someone but will need to be muzzled around small furries due to her background.
Alan, age unknown, Lurcher
Alan is a senior lurcher who was found as a stray.
He is a gentle and affectionate boy who enjoys a small game of ball.
He’s good with other dogs but will not be able to live with cats or small furries as he has a high prey drive.
As he was a stray he will not be able to live with children.
Honey, 6, French Bulldog
Honey is a typical Frenchie and is full of energy.
The six-year-old is a bundle of fun and loves to be busy.
She is very loving, likes to give kisses and is very excitable when she sees you.
Honey loves to be around people, so she is looking for an owner who is home most of the time.
She has met a couple of dogs on the lead and has been fine so far, but she will need further socialising.
Kia, 6, Husky
Kia is a very sweet girl who loves attention.
She is a six-year-old husky and sadly lost her home when her owners were evicted.
She is looking for a home where there is someone around most of the time, and is okay with older children and other dogs.
Banana, one, Dobermann cross
Banana is a one-year-old Doberman cross who is looking for an owner with patience.
She came from a pound in Wales and has had little to no training.
She is a bouncy girl who can get very excitable before her walks, so she does sometimes pull on the lead.
After her initial excitement she can walk nicely but she will need lead training and a strong owner.
Banana is looking for a very active home with a good sized garden to run off her energy in.
She can get scared by new things such as new fencing or a fallen tree that is not normally in that place and will hide behind you for reassurance.
She is also very vocal towards other dogs, and can become frustrated.
She will make a fantastic pet with the right owner who has the time and patience she needs.
Mallow, 3, Jack Russell Terrier cross
Mallow is a very energetic Jack Russell Terrier cross.
The three-year-old will need a lot of physical and mental stimulation, and loves to play with balls and toys.
He is looking for a rural home with little distractions as he can be very vocal in the house and on walks.
Once he is calm, he can be very cuddly on the sofa.
Mallow is looking for an adult-only home with no other animals.
His future owners will be advised to keep him on a lead as he has a very high prey drive.
Mallow will make a wonderful companion to someone who has the time and patience to put into his training and care.
Taylor, 5, Border Collie
Taylor is a very energetic but obedient Border Collie.
The five-year-old loves going for long walks and enjoys playing fetch and chase. He also knows a few commands.
He is looking for a home on a quiet street where walks with busy roads can be avoided, as he is reactive to cars and traffic.
Taylor’s future owner will need to be a single person who has experience not only with the breed but with dogs with behavioural issues. No visitors will be allowed.
He will ideally need a home with some land or a large garden for him to explore safely.
Any potential new owner will be required to come and meet him a few times to help build a bond before adopting him.
Tito, 8, Greyhound x Saluki
Tito is a very loving and playful dog who adores the people he knows.
The eight-year-old greyhound and saluki mix loves his ball and running around playing hide and seek.
He’s a very fast runner and likes to peep into any likely rabbit holes.
He is looking for an adult-only home with no other animals.
Tito will need to live in a home that will work with him, at his own pace, to become a truly settled, content and happy dog.
He will require multiple visits from any potential adopter to build up a bond with him.
Luna, two and a half, American Bulldog
Luna is a two-and-a-half-year-old American bulldog who is looking for her forever home.
When she was first rescued with her puppies, she was very wary of men and had so much energy to burn that she would become very frustrated.
While she can still be cautious of new men, she has gotten used to a daily routine and has calmed right down.
She is okay with other dogs but doesn't like if they are too boisterous or bouncy.
She is looking for a home with no small children and no other pets.
Luna will need further lead training as she gets very excited and can pull, but she will make a lovely pet for someone who has the time and patience to help with this.
Buster, unknown, Bulldog
Buster is a typically stubborn bulldog who loves nothing more than his big comfy bed, getting under the covers and lots of treats.
He can be reluctant to walk in adverse weather conditions but he likes a stroll at his own pace.
Buster is a nosey dog who loves to sniff new smells – he can become protective over objects at times.
He loves a butt scratch and will roll in long grass for you to scratch his tummy and can be quite affectionate on his own terms.
Buster is looking for an experienced male owner who will respect his boundaries and give him the time and space he needs.
He does not like people coming into his home so will need to be kept separate.
Dino, 4-5, Bull lurcher
Dino is a bull lurcher who likes a good stroke and a gentle fuss.
He loves to play ball and can get very over excited and boisterous when first playing, so it is best to leave him to tire himself out first before continuing to play.
He will need gentle and slow socialising as he has become very reactive to other dogs in the past.
Dino is between four and five years old and loves to bark at squirrels running up trees.
He is looking for an adult-only home where he is the only pet.
Gunner, 5, Spaniel
Gunner is a typical spaniel who loves going on walks and smelling everything.

Rolo, 2, Terrier
Rolo is a very busy terrier who loves to chase anything that moves all day every day.
He likes going on walks and stops to smell everything.
Afterwards, he likes to get snug in his bed and he buries himself under his covers when he sleeps.
He loves his toys and will find his favourite and run about with it in his mouth.
As he is very active, his new owners will need to be able to give him lots of exercise.
Rolo has a very high prey drive and tries to chase everything, so can get himself very worked up over this and needs a very understanding owner to help him calm down.
He is also very reactive to other dogs and can redirect so will need an experienced owner.

Ralph, 3, Miniature Pinscher (Min Pin)
Ralph is a lovely and affectionate Min Pin who loves a fuss and to cuddle up on the sofa.
His favourite thing to do is to play with his balls and toys and he is like a big puppy when he’s at home – he will follow you everywhere once he knows you.
Ralph has fear-based aggression when it comes to meeting people he doesn’t know or new environments.
This causes him to become very vocal and snap when he is scared.
He is looking for a very experienced adult only home, with someone who has time and dedication.
Whippy, 3, Greyhound
Whippy is a three-year-old greyhound who loves to run and be chased by people around a safe space.
She can get scared quite easily and doesn’t like walking on tiled floors.
As she is as ex-racer, she has a very high prey drive so she is good with bigger dogs but not with small fluffy dogs.
She is looking for an adult-only home and will need to be the only pet.
When inside, Whippy can be very lazy in between walks and loves a big bed to lounge on.
She gets very protective of her owners in and out of the home so needs a very understanding owner with few visitors.

Jake is a typical beagle who is obsessed with food and will try his very best to get what he wants.
He has recently become diabetic which has caused him to partially lose his vision, so he needs insulin injections twice a day.
He came from a traumatic past which has caused him to bite when feeling threatened, however once he trusts and knows you he is a very affectionate boy who loves a cuddle on the sofa.
Jake is very good with other dogs socially but will need to be the only dog at home due to resource guarding.
He is looking for an adult only home.

Lovely Lily, 3, Lurcher
Lily is a lovely and lively lurcher who was rescued as a stray.
She is very friendly but can bark at other dogs whilst out on lead walks.
Lily is looking for a home without any cats, birds or small furries as she has a strong prey drive.
Her new owner will need to be around for the majority of the day and she will also need her own secure garden where she can run off the lead safely and show off her zooming skills.
It is unknown whether or not Lily has lived with children before so it is advised she be rehomed in a house with no young children.
