05:00, 03 August 2024
For most people, a household pet becomes more than just an animal – they become part of the family.
Here, we’ve profiled 20 of Last Chance Animal Rescues’ adorable pooches in Kent who are desperate to find their forever homes...
Nala, 2, cavalier x chihuahua
Nala is a sweet little girl who is very vocal with people and other dogs.
She is looking for a home in a quiet area where she can be walked without seeing lots of people, as she can be quite anxious.
Her new owner will need to be around all of the time as she has separation anxiety.
Danny Boy, 10, Scottie cross
Danny Boy is lovely 10-year-old dog.
He will need to have a female owner on a one to one basis as he was mistreated by his previous owner, who was male.
This means he can be unpredictable towards men and is confused, untrustworthy and frightened.
When first meeting people he can be nervous so he will need to settle in slowly.
Any potential owners will need to visit Danny Boy on a regular basis over at least a few weeks so trust can be built.
He is currently not a companion pet, and would not understand or want loads of cuddles or fuss.
While out on walks, he will need to keep a distance from people and dogs.
He is ideally looking for a quiet home with a female that does not have regular visitors. It will need to be a home with no children, men or other pets.
Nora, 3, lurcher
Nora is a gentle three-year-old lurcher who was found as a stray.
She will need short walks and rest as she had a cruciate ligament tear which needs to heal.
Nora is good with other dogs and is looking for a lot of TLC from her new owner.
Puggles, 6, pug
Puggles is a very sweet and happy pug who loves cuddles.
She is looking for a nice quiet home as she has been passed around quite a lot.
Her new home will need to have no cats, but it can have other dogs.
She will be okay in a home with children over the age of eight.
Hatchet, 7-8, Jack Russell terrier
Hatchet is a very confused boy who will make a great companion for someone who is looking for a friend.
His previous owner was disabled so wasn’t able to give him the socialising and exercise that he needed.
He can be a little nervous at first but once he gets to know you he is a very friendly boy.
Rocky, 11 months, mallinois
Rocky is a big baby who loves attention and people.
Any new noise startles him – even the squeaking of a squeaky toy scared him when he was first rescued.
He is looking for a patient and understanding owner who has some knowledge of the breed.
Rocky will also need socialising with other dogs, formal training and lots of exercise.
He can be strong on the lead and will walk in circles around you, so the rescue does not think he has had much previous training.
Maya, age unknown, Boston terrier
Maya is a sweet Boston terrier who loves a cuddle.
She was found as a stray and is a little unsure of other dogs, so is looking for a calm home where she can grow in confidence.
Her new home will need to be child-free and she will need to be the only dog.
Blue, 3, Australian shepherd cross
Blue is a playful Australian shepherd cross who has a lot of energy.
He needs to be in a a very active household as he is super intelligent and can get bored quite easily if left alone for long periods of time.
Due to having toileting accidents in the home on several occasions, he has been returned to the rescue a few times.
He is looking for an adult-only home where he is the only pet, as he is not the best with other dogs.
His new owner will need to be understanding and give him time to settle in.
Steve, 2, bulldog
Steve is a sweet, happy and friendly bulldog who loves to play ball.
He appears to be okay with other dogs but will need some training.
He is looking for an adult-only home as he can get possessive over random objects around the house.
Olivia, 1-2, French bulldog
Olivia is a sweet bulldog who is affectionate on her own terms.
She is very lively and playful but can get possessive and will guard things.
She is looking for an adult-only home with no animals, and her new owner will need to be experienced.
Lexi, 7, greyhound
Lexi is a sweet and gentle greyhound who loves a fuss.
She is looking for a nice calm home where she gets lots of attention.
As she is epileptic, she is on ongoing medication.
She is okay with other dogs but her new home will need to be cat free and free of any small animals.
Shadow, 9 months, labrador cross
Shadow is a big and bouncy girl who is very lively and playful.
She needs an active home and an owner who will be able to give her lots of exercise and love.
As she is young, she will need to go to training and exercise classes.
Max, 3, staffie
Max is a sweet boy once he knows you and absolutely loves a bum scratch whilst sitting on your lap.
He is 50/50 with other dogs and is fine seeing them while out on walks.
He loves to hoard his toys and keep them on display in his bed – never destroying them.
Max also likes to snuggle up under his blankets and be warm and cosy.
He has taken a strong disliking to men, presumably as a result of something that happened in the past.
He is looking for an adult female-only home with no visiting children or other pets in the house.
Cobi, 6, Jack Russell
Cobi is a very happy dog when he feels safe, and is looking for a special person who can give him the time and patience he requires.
When he feels scared or frightened he will lash out and bite if given the chance. It is best to leave him alone when he goes into his scared state.
When he knows you he can be very affectionate and loves to sit on your head looking out the window.
He is looking for a one-person adult home with no children, visiting or other pets.
His new owner will need to have experience dealing with the breed.
Dancer, 3-4, collie cross
Dancer came from a Welsh pound and is believed to be an ex-farm dog.
He can be weary of people approaching him on the lead and can nip – he is very traffic reactive.
Dancer is a typical ex-working dog who hasn’t adjusted to home life yet so will need an experienced and very understanding owner to help settle him in slowly.
He needs an adult-only home in a rural setting where he is the only pet.
Charlie, 4-5, greyhound
Charlie is a retired racing greyhound who loves cocktail sausages.
His new owner will need to be patient and understanding, as he is very nervous of new people.
Charlie is looking for a quiet but active forever home and may be okay to be homed with calm, older children.
Due to his past, he will not be okay around cats or other small animals.
Dolly, 2, French bulldog
Dolly is a Frenchie who is looking for a lot of TLC and someone who has plenty of time for her.
Both her and her seven-week-old puppy, Reggie, were rescued after being given to someone by a homeless person.
She is very malnourished but is on the way to being healthy and loves her food.
Dolly will need socialising with other dogs but she loves being around people and having cuddles.
Reggie is also looking for a home.
Loki, 2, doberman Frenchie cross
Loki is a fun-loving doberman and Frenchie mix who loves nothing better than to bound around playing and then have a good fuss.
He is not toilet trained and will need a lot of training in the home.
He is looking for an active and patient owner in a home where he will receive lots of exercise and mental stimulation.
Loki is generally good with other dogs but has been known to bark – he will benefit from further socialisation to help with this.
He will not be able to live with any cats or young children, but could potentially live with older teenagers who are used to bouncy dogs.
Buddy, 18 months, springer spaniel
Buddy is a playful spaniel who loves going on walks along the beach.
It can take a while for him to trust you which means he can be unpredictable with strangers, but he is a very lovely boy who will love his owner very much.
He has been returned to the rescue due to his behaviour.
He does resource guard items such as food and toys which his previous adopters have been working on.
Buddy is looking for a pet-free home with limited visitors and no children.
Carter, 2, lurcher
Carter is a very affectionate lurcher who loves having his people around him all the time.
He came into the rescue after being neglected, but his cheeky side is now starting to show.
He needs a lot of exercise and loves to go for zoomies, but does not like loud noises so will need a quiet home.
Carter can suffer from separation anxiety but with the right training this is easy to overcome. He is also good with other dogs.
He will make a great companion for his new owner, who will need to be able to give him the time and patience he needs.
