The wait is over... and A level students are hearing if they've gained the crucial grades needed for university or a good job.

With a rustle of one small envelope, futures can be decided.

13:00: Congratulations to everyone who sat their A levels this year.

12.01: There were tears of joy at Homewood School, Tenterden, where staff and pupils celebrated 70% getting two or more passes.

Principal Sally Lees said: "We are very pleased and are where we would expect to be. Every student who wanted to go on to a further education course has got the one they wanted."

11:45: At the Isle of Sheppey Academy, Regan Carter, of Queenborough, got two distinctions and a distinction star in her art and design BTEC. "I feel chuffed. I didn't think I was going to get that actually. I'm really happy.The 18-year-old hopes her grades will be enough to land her a place at Oxford Brookes University to study fine art.

11:38: Ellen Reid, 18, from Faversham, is celebrating after getting the best grades at school- A* A* A A - at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School in Faversham

11.29: Star performers at Dartford Science and Technology College included Amber Beach who achieved A*, A, and a B. Sophie Glover got an A, A and a C. Ayesha Thobhani achieved two distinction* in BTEC level 3 ICT and an A and B in sociology and business A-level.

11.16: Delighted teenagers jumped for joy this morning at Highworth Grammar School in Ashford when they opened their envelopes containing their A Level results.

High flier Maria Dance, 18, was over the moon to read she had achieved two A*s in geography and biology and an A in chemistry.

Having checked UCAS this morning, Maria was already aware that she had got into the university of her choice: Oxford.

11:08: More than 99% of students at the Duke of York’s Royal Military School at Dover have achieved two or more A levels.

Katie Saunders, a Junior Under officer, who achieved two A* and one A grade in maths, further maths and physics, said was “very pleased” with her results.

“I am happy that I have got my first choice at the University of Bath to study maths,” she said.

10:45: Amy Griffith,18, from Canterbury High School who got distinctions in Performing Arts and a B grade in Drama. She is going to the London School of Musical Theatre.

She is due to appear in television's Call The Midwife and her ambition is to perform in a West End musical.

10:41: At St George’s Church of England School, Gravesend, there were plenty of smiles.

Hannah Horspool, 18, got A in dance, C in English language and A in philosophy. She is off to Christchurch University in Canterbury where she will study primary school teaching.

She said: “I’m really happy. I worked very hard and it’s finally paid off.

“I’m just looking foward to getting to uni now. It was my first choice and I’m very happy.”

James Connold was head boy at the school. The 18-year-old got A in biology, B in chemisty and A in maths. He is off to Sussex University to study medical neuroscience.

10:16: Year 13 students at Wilmington Grammar School for Boys celebrated record A-level results for the second year in a row.

Charles Sexton, director of the sixth form, was delighted that every student passed all their A-level exams with many of the students achieving the top A and B grades to gain access to the university courses of their choice.

Amongst the many notable performers were Esessien Essien and George Gayton who both achieved A* grades in maths and are on their way to study engineering and physics respectively.

10:14: The proportion of A-levels awarded at least an A grade has fallen for the second year in a row.

In total, 26.3% of entries scored an A or A-star this year. That's a drop of 0.3% percent on 2012.

09:37: At Dartford Grammar School for Girls, Natasha Hudson and Leanne Saheed, both 18, were celebrating getting into the universities of their choice.

Natasha got 4 A* in chemistry, biology, maths and a subject called the Extended Project, which some pupils at the school study.She is off to Nottingham to study pharmacy.

09:08: Students at Dover Grammar School for Girls are celebrating some exceptional performances at A level, with one girl achieving five A* grades and one A.

Headteacher Matthew Bartlett said the school had three times the average number in Kent for students taking up places at top universities.

08:49: Two years of hard study have paid off for pupils at King’s School, Rochester, who have again gained top results.

Walderslade resident Sam Hall is celebrating after securing a scholarship to the Royal College of Music where he will read Composition.

08:35 - It's been confirmed a record number of students have already been accepted on university courses nationally... just under 386,000 have secured a place - that's up 9% on this time last year according to UCAS.
