THIS Polish pony is Sellindge’s newest resident. The foal was born to one of the wild konik horses grazing at Gibbin’s Brook.

Koniks are the closest living relatives to the now extinct tarpans, which once roamed across the great forests of prehistoric Britain.

In the 19th century, farmers in Poland bred the last remaining tarpans with their own work horses and named the resulting breed the konik.

In December, conservationists introduced a herd of five koniks to Gibbin’s Brook to help preserve the wet fen and dry heathland there.

That herd has now increased to six and the new arrival was quickly seen by Sellindge resident Michael Garrod, who took this photograph.
