Last week’s trials session was an eye opener, with several of the greyhounds on show bought at the recent auction.

With many going for considerable amounts, their new owners will be hoping their investments are sound. On the evidence so far, most have done well.

Performance of the session was by Five Card Draw, who, in his solo trial, flew round the 380m in a fast 23.40sec.

The track was on the slow side and the racing office made the going 0.20 slow which will reduce his time to 23.20. This would see the dog entering the race card in top grade A1.

The dog has had five races previously in Ireland, winning the last at Shelbourne Park, so he clearly has a lot of potential given that he will not reach two until May.

It will be interesting to see how he runs against the best here in his first race but he should give a good account of himself.

Tuckers Duke and Droopys Coco were in the same trial and came home in 24.07 and 24.11 respectively, which are decent runs and on paper there is little to choose between them. Dogs that can register these sort of early trial times are future winners, so the pair are worthy of putting in the notebook.

These two have yet to run a competitive race, having had no previous race experience but the signs are positive.

Dodgy Cash will attract attention, if for no other reason than the name. However, her Irish form is not the best so her new owners here should be pleased with her time at trials of 24.17.

Lolos Hurricane was one of the costliest dogs and came with a reputation after having run 24 races in Ireland, 23 at Shelbourne Park.

Having won three of the last six there – all in high grades – he was destined to be bought for decent money.

His 23.60 here is a good time and would put him on the race card around the A3 level.

What he has on his side above all of the others is extensive race experience, which will prove beneficial.
