Thursday afternoon’s meeting features five races for the BAGS/SIS Eggstravaganza series of races.
While our five races here will be contested by our own Crayford-trained greyhounds, the winner in each race will qualify for the Eggstravaganza finals at Monmore, Wolverhampton on Good Friday, March 29.
Three of our races here are over 540m, one over 380m and the fifth will be over 714m. They are comprised of the best we have over these respective distances and here I preview Thursday’s races.
The sprinters’ race over 380m will see two of our fastest dogs Indian Alfie and Ryves Rock running out of traps one and two respectively. Both dogs would ideally like trap one so in that respect it would appear Indian Alfie has a slight advantage.
However, Ryves Rock has shown in the past that while he may not always lead away from the traps, he can win even among the best by working his way through the field if he gets a chance.
They also have in Sharons Delight and Pebbles Del two opponents capable of sub 3.60 second sectional times so there is a lot of early pace in the race. Whild logically I should go with Alfie or Ryves, I am going to take a chance on Sharons Delight.
Over 540m, we have two races for the bitches and one for the dogs. The dogs’ race looks set to be taken by Burgess Cracker. The Julie Luckhurst dog has performed at a higher level lately than his opponents in this race and looks like a good thing.
His kennel-mate Burgess Larry may pose the biggest threat but the pair look set to give their trainer a representative at Monmore. There are 12 bitches in two races over this distance and these events look more difficult to identify a potential winner.
Close Range has won her last three races and should run a big race. Her main challenge may come from one of my favourite dogs, Puffanomic, so with heart over head, I will take the later. In the other bitches’ race, I fancy either Boozed Coline or Scarty Misty.
Coline was in top form during February but the form pendulum has now swung toward Scarty Misty so she is my choice here.
In the stayers’ race over 714m, all six runners appear to have a decent chance but running from trap one I choose Glittering Game.
