We had two winners out of three last week with both Cavies Magpie and Plenty To Say winning at odds of 6-1 and 9-4 respectively.

I expect more wins to come from the pair but it might be wise to watch how they perform for the next couple of races before backing them again.

I have been following with interest the progress of youngster Champ Deas, who will not lose her puppy status until November.

Trained by Gemma Davidson, the dog has only had nine races to date but has managed a couple of wins and three second places.

She is currently racing in grade A6 over 380 metres, having won at both A8 and A7 levels and is well worth consideration given that she has been in the first two coming into the home straight in no fewer than six of her nine races.

Also, Keep an eye on Munster Lady in the next few weeks. The Jean Liles dog had a two-month rest period during April and May before returning to racing here in June.

Prior to her rest, she was racing in grade A4 over 380 metres but returned in grade A6 and managed two wins in that grade.

She was then upgraded to A5 level on July 21. Wins in both A5 and A4 races are well within her scope and I cannot not believe that it will be long before she strikes again.

The latest final in the Owners Bonus Series will be run on Saturday morning’s card and on the evidence of the three qualifying races a week ago, Ardera Morzine would appear to hold a favourite’s chance having won having won his heat in a time of 23.80 seconds.

Take note, however, that the aforementioned Champ Deas finished second in that race and I fancy a reversal of form.

The other heats were won by Longrange Ellen and Coolruss Shaw in times of 24.11 and 23.92 seconds respectively with runners-up Cavansheath Joy and Ballylaw Mac making up the rest of the final field.

This could be a close race for the £500 winner’s prize but I will stay with Champ Deas for the win.
